As a kid, my dad always made me watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on TV from sunny LA--I would watch in wonder as thousands or hundreds of thousands of people would gather in freezing temperature, packed in like sardines and waiting in the early AM to catch glimpses of the floats and parade performers passing by. I will admit I have never been that impressed with parades and have often begrudgingly obliged and gone with my dad to Fourth of July parades, Chinese New Year parades and Rose Bowl parades.
As luck would have it, who knew my boyfriend was actually a HUGE parade fan--when we took him to the Rose Bowl football game in 2008, I think he was more excited about waving at the parade floats and performers while I was itching to get out of there in time to make it to the pre-game festivities. My dad and I were quite amused (and touched) at how much PZ enjoyed the parade and was waving earnestly at every performer in the procession.
So, Thanksgiving in New York happened despite my fears of turning into an icicle while having to get up super early and brave the cold windy weather to watch yet another parade, but these are sacrifices we make for loved ones, right?
Lan-NYC: a favorite spot for us in Manhattan for Shabu Shabu (this is part of the bribing package for me to come to NYC in the winter!)
PZ--Lacoste mauve pink polo, True Religion Joey jeans
Me--Catherine Malandrino Nailhead Bead dress (Gossip Girl-Serena inspired), Marco Bicego necklaces layered
Sugiyama: Kaiseki, one of many delicate small dishes at this unassuming, cozy and very authentic japanese restaurant
View from Top of the Rock(efellar Center): super windy and cold but the view was worth it...thanks Hideki and Debbie for the idea and braving the cold with us!!
Saks Fifth Avenue winter lights display in the background
Food truck in front of Hilton at 57th Street: although we had already stuffed our faces earlier in the evening at Sugiyama's kaiseki meal, we felt we had to try this food truck by our hotel seeing all these people in line...definitely worth the wait in line, after our fingers became un-numbed, we were able to shovel warm chicken and rice into our warm bellies.
I love storefront displays in metropolitan cities, especially during holidays!!
Me--MaxMara down jacket, Chanel Paris Biarritz tote with pockets
Sadly, I would post our Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade experience except we never made it...PZ and I both got terribly sick during our trip in Manhattan and realized there was no way we would survive the minimum few hours we would have to dedicate outside in 20 degree windy weather to catch the festivities...hopefully we will make it out again soon!!
