HBS Wine & Cuisine Soiree @ The Liberty Hotel

 

Peter and I were so excited for the WCS Soiree, got all dressed up and expected to dine on some yummy hors d' oeuvres and check out other people's outfits too!!

Sadly, it was another disappointing night at The Liberty Hotel.  The food came out super late, only like 1 tray at a time, so the poor server would get mobbed by us hungry attendees (I know it's not very lady like but it was like 9pm when the first tray of small bites came out)...and then 20 min later another tray would come out...

I've been here like half a dozen times now for various HBS events...I guess everyone thinks its the "cool hip" place to be in Boston, but I really despise it.  I know "despise" is such a strong word, but I feel like that place is some weird trap where old men go prowling for younger girls and also, old women go prowling for younger guys?  Plus, there's never any/enough seating there and everyone acts like they're too cool.

I'm from L.A. and no, I was never really into the scene, I love fashion, I love L.A. but I never ate at The Ivy, and when I was at Koi for events I was always wishing that I was in Little Tokyo or on Sawtelle in West LA eating at a quiet, homely but yummy place instead.

Anyways...I'm rambling again, but here are pics--at least we got to dress up and see our friends and they all looked lovely too!!!

TV Diner Gala with Petahpoo

 

In mid-November, we trekked out to a Lexus dealership in Sharon, MA (no idea still where this is really LOL) for the TV Diner Gala.

We had high hopes especially after how yummy and great the Boston TASTE event turned out to be, but we were also worried that we may be setting the expectations a bit too high.

After all, we already knew this one did not have the restaurants that the Boston TASTE event had (ie: O Ya, L'Espalier etc)...BUT, we still thought it would be fun and hopefully we'd leave happy and full.

Sadly, this was not the case.  The event was super crowded, we waited in lines for each booth, the food was only okay, I don't think there was any place I'd go and eat at after this event.  PLUS on top of all this, there were NO SEATS!!!  How can you eat with out any seats?  AND there was a huge SHORTAGE of tables!  Terrible planning I'd say...we left very sad and definitely not happy campers =(

Allston, MA actually has quite a selection of authentic and homely "mom and pop" run ethnic restaurants.  We've made it a point to try as many of them as we can during our time here in Boston.  Unfortunately--finding parking here can be near impossible and sometimes we end up driving around for 15-30 min before we find a spot.  Nope, no parking garages around either, sighhhhh

 

This night, we went to Mt. Everest, a Nepalese restaurant--think a mix of Indian and Thai seasonings and such...it was very good, very reasonably priced and the service was excellent too!

I think this was some kind of Chicken Appetizer with Seasoning and Rice Flakes...it was surprisingly delicious, the seasoning was not something I had before either!

New Ginza Japanese Food and Peter's Moncler Thom Browne Gamme Bleu Jacket Debut!!!

 

Well, remember when I posted about our first shopping trip on Newbury Street (a few posts back) and how Peter stumbled upon this super cool boutique called Riccardi's?  It was like love at first sight for him when he walked into that store!

Moncler Thom Browne Gamme Bleu Black Padded Sleeves Down Jacket--it's lined inside in the classic blue and white Thom Browne pattern too---so cute, I LOVE it!!!

(when I first saw it, it totally reminded me of the Celine leather jacket from Spring 2010 with the padded sleeves...does this ring a bell with anyone else??)

 

Well, it finally got cool enough and of course, Peter excitedly brought his jacket out to wear one night to dinner at New Ginza in Watertown :)

BTW--this place is a favorite of ours now...we LOVE the japanese food there, its close by and it makes our spicy salmon roll with the perfect amount of spicy mayo--lots of fresh chunks of salmon sashimi AND the service is super good!!!

 

Beef Tataki with Ponzu Sauce and Raw Onions--Peter used to never like Beef Tataki, which made me kind of sad, well, not THAT sad cos I would just eat it all, but ever since he had it here at New Ginza, he's been IN LOVE with it!!!  The beef here is so tender and perfectly seasoned!!!  We had it at Douzo too and that one did not even compare!!

Oh and we definitely recommend getting the Red Bean Ice Cream there too, its sooooo yummy!!!

 

 

 

Shabu-Ya in Harvard Square, Cambridge

 

We usually go to Shabu Zen in Allston, MA but this time we decided to try the Shabu-Ya in Harvard Square.  Not such a good idea.  We realize now that since we both have cars, we will probably never eat in Harvard Square again...

 

The pork was just a bit cardboardy, the soup not as flavorful and the vegetable assortment didn't look as fresh--overall very slow and inattentive service too!

Boston Magazine TASTE Event with Peter, Monica and Amy :)

 

Peter found out about the TASTE event when we first moved to Boston and immediately got tickets for us to go.  It sounded really yummy with chefs from O Ya, L'Espalier, Menton and many other top Boston restaurants.  We figured this would be a great way for us to sample tastings of these places before deciding on which ones we'd want to visit for special occasions over the course of the next 2 years.

Nicole Richie--Fashion Icon

 

Back in L.A. (circa 2005), I have to say that Nicole Richie and Jessica Simpson were two of my favorite fashion influences.  Nicole had the whole casual but comfy look down, and every outfit she wore had 1-2 pieces that really "completed the look."  I guess it didn't hurt that she had Rachel Zoe, celebrity stylist, on speed dial all the time too...but each look was just so "natural" and didn't look like it took too much time or effort to put together.

OLD PICS again...Fairmont D.C. Sunday Brunch Buffet!

 

I hope I'm not confusing everyone too much but I couldn't resist posting some older pics I had never gotten around to posting on here. 

 

One of my favorite things to do on the weekends is to explore Sunday Brunch Buffet options.  I think I have been to every Sunday Brunch Buffet in the D.C. area--the ones in the hotels like the Ritz, Hyatt, Fairmont etc.

This was way earlier on in the summer of 2008 :)

All the food we had eaten already...the Fairmont in D.C. definitely has a very nice lay out and dining atmosphere for the Sunday Brunch Buffet--I would say though, that I was disappointed that the OJ did NOT taste fresh squeezed, and the wait-staff was a bit slow and unattentive...usually wouldn't give them such a hard time, but it was like 75 USD per person for the Sunday Brunch Buffet--so YES, I do expect someone to be back there squeezing my oranges into juice!

 

 

 

Yes, we really love grapes!!  BTW--Grapes with milk is very delicious, yes you heard right, put some grapes into a bowl, pour some milk into it like cereal, and then eat...it's very yummy!!!

 

 

 

I have no idea what I'm holding in my hand but I can assure you we did not waste it :)

YSL Yves Saint Laurent Black Patent Leather Classic Buckle Belt--believe it or not, this was a pretty lucky find at Saks Jandel in Chevy Chase, MD.  For awhile, YSL discontinued making this belt and I had a really hard time finding this style, until one day I walked by Saks Jandel (which is across the street from Saks Fifth Avenue in Chevy Chase, MD--yes, 2 "Saks" across from each other LOL)...and saw this on the window display!!  Last one and a bit too big but with some excellent tailoring services at Saks Jandel, they got it to the size I needed!
