Boston to South Africa via Frankfurt!

 

For J-term, Peter and I decided to trek all the way to South Africa!!!  So excited as this was the first time for both of us on the continent of Africa!! weeee....

We actually took quite a detour to get there too, well, not a huge detour distance-wise, but we did opt to do a 20 hour layover in Frankfurt which made our ticket MUCH cheaper haha...and we figured we would get to check out Frankfurt for the day too.

Well, we arrived in Frankfurt and ummmm...it was a Sunday, and it was super cold...plus everything was CLOSED!!  It was like everyone had left or something, total ghost town.  Note to self, never go to a European city on a Sunday, especially the day after New Years!!

We trekked all over Frankfurt, felt like the city was ours...didn't see anyone for awhile! 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Another thing on Sunday, not many places are open, even restaurants don't open till extra late like 12 noon!  We were waiting outside, freezing our butts off hoping for this place to open soon...FINALLY, we ran in like 2 starved kids LOL 

 

 

 

We basically ordered everything off the menu cos we had landed in Frankfurt at like 7am, so we had spent many hours wandering the empty freezing streets already and were starving!!!

I have no idea what this soup was but it was eh...it's like some German minestrone or something. 

 

 

 

Some other soup that shall remain "nameless" now since I can't remember what it was...but this was yummier haha

I got Pig's Feet, unfortunately it wasn't quite what I was expecting...I should've known, I was ready for it to come out with some rice and bok choy LOL 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Peter also decided he wanted some sausages, umm, yah, these were a bit anemic looking and not quite what he was looking for... 

 

 

YAY, done with Frankfurt, sadly, walked past Chanel and it was closed!!!  What do people do on Sundays?!!!  

 

 

 

Lunching @ Basho with Petah :)

 

Thanks to Groupon, Living Social, BuywithMe and all these discount/coupon websites, Peter and I have trekked around Boston to try out a bunch of places we may not have otherwise known about or dined at.

 

Basho is a sister restaurant to Douzo, which we had dined at previously with our pals Amy and TQ. 

 

Bento Lunch Box--you always get such great deals on lunch! 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Me--Splendid Plaid Shirt (PZ hates plaid shirts and always tells me that the 1980s called and wanted their shirt back, or something to that degree.  While I DO LOVE plaid shirts, when I purchased this one, I had no idea it would be so large/baggy...apparently I missed the "dolman sleeves" description, but then again, who thought DOLMAN SLEEVES would be a good idea for a plaid button up shirt? LOL)

Me--Chanel Nylon Trapper hat, Louis Vuitton Stephen Sprouse Pink Leopard scarf, Alexander Wang Grey Leather/Black Fleece hoodie jacket, Juicy Couture Cobalt Blue Velour Track Pants, Chanel Modern Chain Glazed Black Leather bag, Jimmy Choo Mandah Studded Embellished Ugg boots (LOVE LOVE these, so comfy yet stand out!)

 

 

 

Christmas Dinner @ Peach Farm Chinese Restaurant

 

Despite stuffing ourselves during our Christmas lunch @ Petit Robert BIstro, we still managed to squeeze in a rather large Christmas dinner at Peach Farm Chinese Restaurant in Boston's Chinatown.

I must say, one of the good things about Boston, is that their Cantonese food is much better than the offerings in D.C.

 

Sliced Pork with Watercress Soup--so light yet declicious, perfect for those days you don't want something too "heavy" 

 

 

Seafood Basket--Peter insisted on ordering this even though I've never had much success with this dish.  Not sure why but it usually comes out a bit bland and the fried basket part is actually not that yummy LOL 

 

Sweet & Sour Pork Chops--quite yummy! 

 

 

Lobster with Ginger & Scallions--just about everyone else in Peach Farm ordered this, so we felt obliged to do the same, it was definitely a winner!! 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Christmas Lunch @ Petit Robert Bistro

 

Christmas feels like ages ago now but here are some pictures of how we spent our Christmas day...pretty low key this year :)

We decided to try Petit Robert Bistro in Boston, it's a super cute French restaurant.

French Onion Soup--delicious, not too salty and enough cheese to satisfy our appetite! 

 

 

Trio of Pate--this was actually quite a hearty portion!  Still, we managed to eat it all up! 

 

 

Peter's Quiche--yummy, and the fries were perfect too! 

 

 

Shepherds Pie--I thought this was more a British plate, but it was cold and I was feeling in the mood for something hearty, and this definitely hit the spot! 

 

 

 

 

 

I forget which dessert this is but it was DELICIOUS!!  It was a sweet chocolate swirl cake, but nothing too overwhelming or too chocolatey--yes, I am not the biggest fan of chocolate...I know, it's very weird! LOL 

Me--Margarita Saplala Black Cardigan with Gold Bow Sequins, Disney Christmas Hat--very special and dear to me as this was purchased during a Disneyland trip in the first week Peter and I met! :)

L'Espalier Lunch Getaway with Maurice and Manolya

 

So in the midst of HBS Finals week, what would one do--lunch at L'Espalier of course!

After a finance exam, Peter decided that everyone needed a celebration lunch (of course, mind you that at this point, they had no idea how well they actually had done just yet LOL).

It was a terribly poopy winter day in Boston, as in, during our 2.5 hour lunch (yes, we have no idea how we spent so much time there haha) I think a bunch of snow had collected already since it was a blizzard outside.

We went with the plan to get the 3 course $30 usd per person lunch, but somehow talked ourselves into doing the Seasonal Degustation...super delicious and did not regret this at all!!

Armenian Grocery Shopping with Becca and PZ

 

After having brunch at Deluxe Town Diner near us, we stopped by this Armenian grocery store...there are so many of them here.  Apparently, Watertown has the 2nd largest concentration of Armenians (1st is L.A.) outside of Armenia.  No idea why Watertown but we have Armenian neighbors who spend almost all their time huffing and puffing on their porch, even when it's freezing cold and snowing outside, they're on their porch.  So weird, right?  Peter and I were wondering if they were drug dealers cos they get deliveries every now and then too from some young kids who drop by stuff in an ice chest and brown paper bags...suspicious, right?

 

Anyhooo...back to this day--we were just being silly snapping some photos!

 

YAY for grapes, these turned out to be super sweet ones too, YAY!

So, this is around the time of HBS Finals, but is Peter worried at all? Nooooo...in fact, I don't recall Peter studying much at all before each final, I think he had a quick lookover about 2 hours before the exams...I guess bschool isn't that hard? LOL jkk!!!
